Torrebuceit

Castillo de Torrebuceit, in Villar del Águila (Torrejoncillo del Rey, Cuenca), is a fortress of Islamic origin set within the landscape of the Záncara valley. It is now privately owned and can only be viewed from outside.

Torrebuceit was my home during the first four years of my life.

Ávila

Ávila preserves one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval walls. Its historic city, extra-mural churches and walled enclosure are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Castillo de Peracense

Peracense Castle rises from a red sandstone rock and arranges its defences across several enclosures shaped by the terrain. The fortress played a strategic role on the frontier, while its main residence was occupied during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.

Castillo de Consuegra

Consuegra Castle dominates Cerro Calderico. Its origins go back to a tenth-century Muslim fortification, later rebuilt and enlarged by the Order of Malta. The surrounding area was also the scene of the Battle of Consuegra in 1097.

Huerta de la Obispalía

The castle of Huerta de la Obispalía occupies the highest point of the village and has an Andalusi origin dating from the tenth century. Its current keep dates from the fifteenth century and preserves a 1473 inscription linked to the ecclesiastical power of the former Obispalía territory.

Castillo de Zafra (Guadalajara)

Zafra Castle rises on a rocky outcrop in Campillo de Dueñas and was built in the twelfth century over a fortress of Arab origin. In Game of Thrones it became the Tower of Joy in Dorne, where Ned Stark finds his sister Lyanna.
